Glycans For Regeneration

Lab Mission

Leveraging sugars or glycans and biomaterials to promote tissue repair & regeneration while nurturing the next generation of biomedical engineers in an inclusive training environment.

What we do?

Glycosylation is essentially an enzymatic process that adds glycans (popularly known as sugars) to different biomolecules like proteins.

Glycans have tremendous versatility to encode information for metabolic regulation as a ‘sugar code’ which changes under healthy and pathological conditions including neuroinflammation. Neuroinflammation is a central theme to many acute and chronic central nervous system (CNS) disorders and mediates the functional outcomes in these disorders. The Glycans for Regeneration lab will focus on expanding the understanding of the implications of glycans in immune cell tuneability and development of new glycan-based translational therapeutics for these disorders.
